What Is Wellness Within?
For my first blog, I thought I’d introduce Wellness Within – who I am and what I’m all about.
How It All Started
My name is Katie Webster, I’m 30 years old, and I’ve been in the beauty industry since leaving
school over 13 years ago. I started my training after always having an interest in the industry,
but it was during my training that I discovered my true passion: massage.
After qualifying, I had a job waiting for me at Eastthorpe Hall in Mirfield, a beautiful 5-star spa
where I spent the next four years working my way up from therapist to Head Therapist and
eventually Spa Manager.
It was the perfect place to begin my career and has shaped me into the therapist I am today.
However, I wanted to gain more experience and work in different spa environments, so I went
on to work in several wonderful and well-established spas, including Waterton Park Hotel &
Spa in Wakefield, Le Petite Spa in Halifax, and 315 Bar & Restaurant Spa and Hotel in Lepton.I loved my work and felt incredibly lucky to have found a career I was so passionate about. I
just needed to find my own path within the industry.
Finding My Passion
That’s when Flutterby Beauty was born – a mobile service dedicated to “bringing the spa to
you”.
While I initially focused on massage and facials, as these have always been my clients’
favourite treatments, I also offered a full range of beauty services including nails, spray tans,
lashes, tinting, waxing and makeup.
Although I enjoyed providing these treatments, they were never where my heart truly was.
I later started renting a space at Babyccinos in Mirfield, where I quickly became known for
working with pregnant women and new mums.
I had completed additional pregnancy massage training years earlier and had also worked at
Le Petite Spa, which was well known for its prenatal treatments. This became an area of work
that I absolutely loved.
Pregnant women are often sore, uncomfortable and carrying extra tension, so seeing the
difference a treatment could make was incredibly rewarding.
One thing I heard regularly was that previous pregnancy massages had felt too gentle. While
lighter pressure is appropriate in certain areas, such as the lower back, it is completely safe to
work with firmer pressure elsewhere when using the correct positioning and techniques.
Every treatment starts with a consultation, where I discuss pressure preferences and any
concerns. I often find that many pregnant women still want focused tension-relief work,
especially around the shoulders, neck and upper back.
The Covid Years
My next steps within the industry were unexpectedly put on hold when we entered the Covid
lockdowns.
Being physically unable to provide treatments, I had to pause my business and find another
way to work. On the day of the first lockdown, I got a job at my local Co-op because I simply
couldn’t see how massage therapy could continue when we weren’t allowed within two
metres of each other.
As time went on, I adapted and focused more on the product brand I represent. I moved from
running mobile workshops in clients’ homes alongside treatments to hosting workshops and
follow-along facials online. When restrictions eased for a short period, I returned to the treatment room under strict
regulations. This time, however, I wasn’t alone – I was pregnant with my oldest son.
Not long after, we entered another lockdown. By the time restrictions were finally lifted, I had
welcomed my little Theodore and was enjoying precious time with my growing family.
I later went on to have my second little boy, Finlay.
Last year, my oldest turned five and I finally felt the time was right to return to the industry I
love.
Why Wellness Within Was Born
Coming back to work, I realised a lot had changed, and so had I.
Rebranding felt like the natural next step.
I stopped offering “the full works” and decided to focus solely on my true passion – massage
and helping people feel better in their bodies.
Flutterby Beauty belonged to a previous chapter of my life. Moving forward as Wellness
Within felt completely right.
The name reflects exactly what I want to achieve with every treatment: helping people feel
better from the inside out.
I don’t like to simply treat my clients; I like to make a difference.
Every treatment is personalised to the individual, and I always try to offer guidance beyond
the treatment itself. Whether that’s simple self-care advice, posture awareness, stretching
recommendations or small lifestyle changes, I want my clients to leave feeling empowered as
well as relaxed.
For me, treatment doesn’t end when you leave the room.
I want to help people feel better long after their appointment has finished.
Why Massage Is More Than a Luxury
Most of my clients will tell you that massage isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity for maintaining a
balanced lifestyle.
Even clients who can only come a few times a year leave with advice and guidance on how to
prolong the benefits of their treatment and support themselves between appointments.
Massage can be an incredible tool, but the real magic happens when it’s combined with small,
consistent habits at home. That’s where lasting results come from.
My Massage Philosophy
Returning to work not only reconnected me with my passion but also helped me discover my
speciality within massage.
I realised that while every client is different, many people are actually looking for a very
similar outcome.
The key is communication.
A treatment is only ever as good as the therapist’s understanding of what their client truly
wants and needs. That can sometimes be difficult because, unless you’re a therapist yourself,
it isn’t always easy to explain exactly what your body needs.
Through thorough consultations and discussions, I discovered that my speciality is combining
deep relaxation with effective tension relief.
Traditionally, therapists will often ask whether you’d like a relaxing massage or a tension-
relieving massage.
My clients usually want both – and honestly, so do I.
I begin by helping the body and mind relax, allowing clients to feel grounded and reach a
deeper state of relaxation. Once that foundation is there, I can work slowly and intentionally
with firmer pressure to release tension, aches and pains.
I truly believe the body can only fully let go and begin to heal when it feels safe and relaxed.
Our bodies are amazing, and when they’re supported with the right treatment, the right
aftercare and positive habits implemented at home, the results can be life-changing.
Too many people live with aches and pains believing they’re simply part of life, part of getting
older, or just part of the job. Others assume the problem will eventually disappear on its own.
The reality is that things rarely improve without time, effort and consistency.
Invest in Yourself
Nothing changes without action.
If you put time and effort into looking after your body, your body will thank you for it.
Whether you’re dealing with tension, stress, aches and pains, pregnancy discomfort, or
simply need time to switch off from the demands of everyday life, you deserve to feel your
best. That’s exactly why Wellness Within exists.
To help you feel better, move better, and live better—inside and out.
For my first blog, I thought I’d introduce Wellness Within – who I am and what I’m all about.
