How to Get Results That Make a Lasting Impact on Your Life

Like most things in life, one session alone won’t completely fix a long-term concern. Whether it’s exercise, healthy eating or massage, consistency is what creates lasting results.

Your first massage—or even one after several months without one—always feels amazing. Your body has often been holding onto tension for far too long.

One of the things I hear most often after a treatment is:

“I didn’t realise how bad I actually was!”

Afterwards, you feel lighter, looser and more relaxed. But unfortunately, after just one treatment, those results don’t usually last very long.

That’s completely normal.

Why Regular Massage Makes Such a Difference

Depending on how much tension has built up, I usually recommend starting with treatments every 2-3 weeks. Everyone is different though, so it always comes down to how your body feels.

After a few treatments, something starts to change.

Instead of your muscles tightening back up straight away, they begin to stay relaxed for much longer. That’s usually when we can move appointments to every 4-6 weeks.

Clients who don’t suffer with recurring tension often visit every 8-12 weeks.

There isn’t one schedule that suits everyone—it’s about finding what works best for you and your body.

One of my favourite things clients tell me is:

“My body knows it’s nearly time for my massage.”

That’s usually a sign we’ve found the perfect routine.

What You Can Do Between Treatments

Massage is incredibly beneficial, but looking after yourself between appointments helps those results last even longer.

Here are some of my biggest tips, especially if you struggle with back, neck and shoulder tension.

Stretch Every Morning and Evening

Think of your everyday activities as exercise.

Just like you wouldn’t normally start a workout without warming up, your muscles benefit from regular stretching before asking them to work all day.

Even five minutes morning and evening can make a huge difference.

Check Your Posture

Poor posture puts unnecessary strain on certain muscles.

Be mindful of how you’re sitting, standing and carrying yourself throughout the day.

If you work at a desk:

  • Keep your monitor at eye level.
  • Sit with good support.
  • Consider investing in a better office chair or posture support if needed.

Small changes can make a big difference over time.

Find the Right Pillow

Sometimes your pillow is the reason your neck and shoulders keep tightening.

If it’s too high or too low, it can create unnecessary strain while you sleep.

I often recommend trying a supportive neck pillow.

I’ve had so many clients change their pillow and come back with noticeably less tension than before.

Use a Pillow to Support Your Back

This is one of my favourite tips because it’s so simple.

  • Side sleeper? Place a pillow between your knees.
  • Back sleeper? Place one underneath your knees.
  • Front sleeper? Place one under your ankles.

It helps reduce pressure through your lower back while you sleep.

Relax in an Epsom Salt Bath

Epsom salts are amazing for tired, aching muscles.

Combined with a warm bath, they help soothe soreness, ease stiffness and encourage your muscles to relax.

If you wake up feeling particularly stiff, a soak can really help you loosen up before the day begins.

Looking After Your Overall Wellbeing

Massage works even better when it’s combined with looking after your wellbeing.

Don’t Wear Yourself Too Thin

Doing too much—physically or mentally—takes its toll.

Stress has a habit of settling in our shoulders, neck and upper back.

Try creating a small daily ritual whenever life feels overwhelming.

It could be:

  • Sitting quietly with a hot drink.
  • Taking ten minutes away from your phone.
  • Applying your favourite essential oil.
  • Sitting outside in the fresh air.

Small moments of calm really do matter.

(I’ll write another blog all about simple wellbeing rituals soon.)

Drink Plenty of Water

Aim for around eight glasses a day—more if it’s hot or you’re particularly active.

Our bodies are mostly made up of water, so it’s no surprise we feel sluggish, tired and achy when we’re dehydrated.

Eat Well

I’m not a nutritionist, but there’s no denying that what we eat affects how we feel.

A balanced diet can have a positive impact on energy levels, sleep, hormones and overall wellbeing.

Food really is powerful.

Keep Moving

Movement doesn’t have to mean spending hours in the gym.

Even a simple walk outside can do wonders for both your body and your mind.

Fresh air, gentle movement and daylight are often underestimated.

Prioritise Sleep

Most adults aim for around eight hours, but everyone is different.

Find what leaves you feeling your best.

I always recommend an early night after a massage treatment if you can.

Your body is already relaxed, making it easier to drift off, and sleep is when your body repairs and restores itself.

The Bottom Line

Massage will always leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

But when you combine regular treatments with looking after your muscles, your posture and your overall wellbeing, that’s when you’ll really notice lasting results.

Your body works hard for you every single day.

It deserves looking after too. 🤍

Why Sleep Is Essential for Wellness?

Why Sleep Is Essential for Wellness?

Anyone who has been for a treatment with me will know how much I go on about sleep and getting an early night after your treatment. I say it every time, and that’s because I genuinely believe it makes a huge difference.

When I first started encouraging clients to have an early night after their massage, that’s when I started receiving messages the next day saying how amazing they felt. Of course, most people feel the immediate relaxation after a treatment. When we’ve worked into areas holding stress and tension, there’s often a huge sense of relief because those muscles have been working overtime for far too long.

What really makes the difference, though, is allowing your body to maintain that relaxed state for the rest of the day and then giving it the gift of a good night’s sleep.

When do we recover?

Our bodies do most of their repairing and recovery while we sleep. During sleep, our muscles recover, our nervous system calms, and our bodies get the opportunity to process the day’s physical and mental demands. Following a massage, this recovery process becomes even more important as your body adjusts to the release of tension and works to restore balance. Research consistently shows that sleep plays a vital role in physical recovery, immune function, memory, and emotional wellbeing.

I often describe massage as creating the opportunity for your body to relax, release, and begin healing. Sleep is what allows that process to continue.

The reality is that modern life doesn’t always make this easy. We’re constantly busy, connected, and rushing from one thing to the next. I’m not saying you need an early night every single evening. Life is about balance. What matters is finding a routine that works for you and allows you enough quality sleep on a regular basis.

What is recommended?

The general recommendation is around 7-8 hours of sleep per night, but we’re all different. Some people need a little more, some feel great with a little less. The important thing is learning to listen to your body. If you’re constantly feeling tired, struggling to concentrate, feeling irritable, or relying on caffeine to get through the day, your body might be asking for more rest.

One of the reasons I encourage clients to have an early night after a treatment is because it creates a lovely little wellness ritual. You’ve already invested time in reducing stress, easing tension, and looking after yourself. Why not finish the day by allowing your body that extra time to recover?

Many reflexology clients also tell me they experience some of their best sleep after a treatment. Reflexology is often chosen by people who struggle to switch off, feel stressed, or have difficulty relaxing, and many report feeling deeply calm and sleeping particularly well afterwards.

Experiencing the full benefits of massage and reflexology isn’t just about the treatment itself. It’s about supporting your whole wellbeing.

This is exactly why Wellness Within was created.

I absolutely love what I do and take great pride in providing exceptional treatments, but over time I’ve realised that true wellness goes beyond the treatment room. The most noticeable and lasting results often come when clients start looking after their wellbeing from within too. Whether that’s getting enough sleep, drinking more water, moving their body, or simply making time for themselves, these small changes can make a big difference.

A massage can help your body relax.

A good night’s sleep can help it heal.

Together, they are a powerful combination.

For my first blog, I thought I’d introduce Wellness Within – who I am and what I’m all about.

How It All Started

My name is Katie Webster, I’m 30 years old, and I’ve been in the beauty industry since leaving

school over 13 years ago. I started my training after always having an interest in the industry,

but it was during my training that I discovered my true passion: massage.

After qualifying, I had a job waiting for me at Eastthorpe Hall in Mirfield, a beautiful 5-star spa

where I spent the next four years working my way up from therapist to Head Therapist and

eventually Spa Manager.

It was the perfect place to begin my career and has shaped me into the therapist I am today.

However, I wanted to gain more experience and work in different spa environments, so I went

on to work in several wonderful and well-established spas, including Waterton Park Hotel &

Spa in Wakefield, Le Petite Spa in Halifax, and 315 Bar & Restaurant Spa and Hotel in Lepton.I loved my work and felt incredibly lucky to have found a career I was so passionate about. I

just needed to find my own path within the industry.

Finding My Passion

That’s when Flutterby Beauty was born – a mobile service dedicated to “bringing the spa to

you”.

While I initially focused on massage and facials, as these have always been my clients’

favourite treatments, I also offered a full range of beauty services including nails, spray tans,

lashes, tinting, waxing and makeup.

Although I enjoyed providing these treatments, they were never where my heart truly was.

I later started renting a space at Babyccinos in Mirfield, where I quickly became known for

working with pregnant women and new mums.

I had completed additional pregnancy massage training years earlier and had also worked at

Le Petite Spa, which was well known for its prenatal treatments. This became an area of work

that I absolutely loved.

Pregnant women are often sore, uncomfortable and carrying extra tension, so seeing the

difference a treatment could make was incredibly rewarding.

One thing I heard regularly was that previous pregnancy massages had felt too gentle. While

lighter pressure is appropriate in certain areas, such as the lower back, it is completely safe to

work with firmer pressure elsewhere when using the correct positioning and techniques.

Every treatment starts with a consultation, where I discuss pressure preferences and any

concerns. I often find that many pregnant women still want focused tension-relief work,

especially around the shoulders, neck and upper back.

The Covid Years

My next steps within the industry were unexpectedly put on hold when we entered the Covid

lockdowns.

Being physically unable to provide treatments, I had to pause my business and find another

way to work. On the day of the first lockdown, I got a job at my local Co-op because I simply

couldn’t see how massage therapy could continue when we weren’t allowed within two

metres of each other.

As time went on, I adapted and focused more on the product brand I represent. I moved from

running mobile workshops in clients’ homes alongside treatments to hosting workshops and

follow-along facials online. When restrictions eased for a short period, I returned to the treatment room under strict

regulations. This time, however, I wasn’t alone – I was pregnant with my oldest son.

Not long after, we entered another lockdown. By the time restrictions were finally lifted, I had

welcomed my little Theodore and was enjoying precious time with my growing family.

I later went on to have my second little boy, Finlay.

Last year, my oldest turned five and I finally felt the time was right to return to the industry I

love.

Why Wellness Within Was Born

Coming back to work, I realised a lot had changed, and so had I.

Rebranding felt like the natural next step.

I stopped offering “the full works” and decided to focus solely on my true passion – massage

and helping people feel better in their bodies.

Flutterby Beauty belonged to a previous chapter of my life. Moving forward as Wellness

Within felt completely right.

The name reflects exactly what I want to achieve with every treatment: helping people feel

better from the inside out.

I don’t like to simply treat my clients; I like to make a difference.

Every treatment is personalised to the individual, and I always try to offer guidance beyond

the treatment itself. Whether that’s simple self-care advice, posture awareness, stretching

recommendations or small lifestyle changes, I want my clients to leave feeling empowered as

well as relaxed.

For me, treatment doesn’t end when you leave the room.

I want to help people feel better long after their appointment has finished.

Why Massage Is More Than a Luxury

Most of my clients will tell you that massage isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity for maintaining a

balanced lifestyle.

Even clients who can only come a few times a year leave with advice and guidance on how to

prolong the benefits of their treatment and support themselves between appointments.

Massage can be an incredible tool, but the real magic happens when it’s combined with small,

consistent habits at home. That’s where lasting results come from.

My Massage Philosophy

Returning to work not only reconnected me with my passion but also helped me discover my

speciality within massage.

I realised that while every client is different, many people are actually looking for a very

similar outcome.

The key is communication.

A treatment is only ever as good as the therapist’s understanding of what their client truly

wants and needs. That can sometimes be difficult because, unless you’re a therapist yourself,

it isn’t always easy to explain exactly what your body needs.

Through thorough consultations and discussions, I discovered that my speciality is combining

deep relaxation with effective tension relief.

Traditionally, therapists will often ask whether you’d like a relaxing massage or a tension-

relieving massage.

My clients usually want both – and honestly, so do I.

I begin by helping the body and mind relax, allowing clients to feel grounded and reach a

deeper state of relaxation. Once that foundation is there, I can work slowly and intentionally

with firmer pressure to release tension, aches and pains.

I truly believe the body can only fully let go and begin to heal when it feels safe and relaxed.

Our bodies are amazing, and when they’re supported with the right treatment, the right

aftercare and positive habits implemented at home, the results can be life-changing.

Too many people live with aches and pains believing they’re simply part of life, part of getting

older, or just part of the job. Others assume the problem will eventually disappear on its own.

The reality is that things rarely improve without time, effort and consistency.

Invest in Yourself

Nothing changes without action.

If you put time and effort into looking after your body, your body will thank you for it.

Whether you’re dealing with tension, stress, aches and pains, pregnancy discomfort, or

simply need time to switch off from the demands of everyday life, you deserve to feel your

best. That’s exactly why Wellness Within exists.

To help you feel better, move better, and live better—inside and out.
