How to Get Results That Make a Lasting Impact on Your Life

Like most things in life, one session alone won’t completely fix a long-term concern. Whether it’s exercise, healthy eating or massage, consistency is what creates lasting results.

Your first massage—or even one after several months without one—always feels amazing. Your body has often been holding onto tension for far too long.

One of the things I hear most often after a treatment is:

“I didn’t realise how bad I actually was!”

Afterwards, you feel lighter, looser and more relaxed. But unfortunately, after just one treatment, those results don’t usually last very long.

That’s completely normal.

Why Regular Massage Makes Such a Difference

Depending on how much tension has built up, I usually recommend starting with treatments every 2-3 weeks. Everyone is different though, so it always comes down to how your body feels.

After a few treatments, something starts to change.

Instead of your muscles tightening back up straight away, they begin to stay relaxed for much longer. That’s usually when we can move appointments to every 4-6 weeks.

Clients who don’t suffer with recurring tension often visit every 8-12 weeks.

There isn’t one schedule that suits everyone—it’s about finding what works best for you and your body.

One of my favourite things clients tell me is:

“My body knows it’s nearly time for my massage.”

That’s usually a sign we’ve found the perfect routine.

What You Can Do Between Treatments

Massage is incredibly beneficial, but looking after yourself between appointments helps those results last even longer.

Here are some of my biggest tips, especially if you struggle with back, neck and shoulder tension.

Stretch Every Morning and Evening

Think of your everyday activities as exercise.

Just like you wouldn’t normally start a workout without warming up, your muscles benefit from regular stretching before asking them to work all day.

Even five minutes morning and evening can make a huge difference.

Check Your Posture

Poor posture puts unnecessary strain on certain muscles.

Be mindful of how you’re sitting, standing and carrying yourself throughout the day.

If you work at a desk:

  • Keep your monitor at eye level.
  • Sit with good support.
  • Consider investing in a better office chair or posture support if needed.

Small changes can make a big difference over time.

Find the Right Pillow

Sometimes your pillow is the reason your neck and shoulders keep tightening.

If it’s too high or too low, it can create unnecessary strain while you sleep.

I often recommend trying a supportive neck pillow.

I’ve had so many clients change their pillow and come back with noticeably less tension than before.

Use a Pillow to Support Your Back

This is one of my favourite tips because it’s so simple.

  • Side sleeper? Place a pillow between your knees.
  • Back sleeper? Place one underneath your knees.
  • Front sleeper? Place one under your ankles.

It helps reduce pressure through your lower back while you sleep.

Relax in an Epsom Salt Bath

Epsom salts are amazing for tired, aching muscles.

Combined with a warm bath, they help soothe soreness, ease stiffness and encourage your muscles to relax.

If you wake up feeling particularly stiff, a soak can really help you loosen up before the day begins.

Looking After Your Overall Wellbeing

Massage works even better when it’s combined with looking after your wellbeing.

Don’t Wear Yourself Too Thin

Doing too much—physically or mentally—takes its toll.

Stress has a habit of settling in our shoulders, neck and upper back.

Try creating a small daily ritual whenever life feels overwhelming.

It could be:

  • Sitting quietly with a hot drink.
  • Taking ten minutes away from your phone.
  • Applying your favourite essential oil.
  • Sitting outside in the fresh air.

Small moments of calm really do matter.

(I’ll write another blog all about simple wellbeing rituals soon.)

Drink Plenty of Water

Aim for around eight glasses a day—more if it’s hot or you’re particularly active.

Our bodies are mostly made up of water, so it’s no surprise we feel sluggish, tired and achy when we’re dehydrated.

Eat Well

I’m not a nutritionist, but there’s no denying that what we eat affects how we feel.

A balanced diet can have a positive impact on energy levels, sleep, hormones and overall wellbeing.

Food really is powerful.

Keep Moving

Movement doesn’t have to mean spending hours in the gym.

Even a simple walk outside can do wonders for both your body and your mind.

Fresh air, gentle movement and daylight are often underestimated.

Prioritise Sleep

Most adults aim for around eight hours, but everyone is different.

Find what leaves you feeling your best.

I always recommend an early night after a massage treatment if you can.

Your body is already relaxed, making it easier to drift off, and sleep is when your body repairs and restores itself.

The Bottom Line

Massage will always leave you feeling relaxed and refreshed.

But when you combine regular treatments with looking after your muscles, your posture and your overall wellbeing, that’s when you’ll really notice lasting results.

Your body works hard for you every single day.

It deserves looking after too. 🤍
